19th century advertisement for footsteppers
Saturday 1 March 2008It’s Tootsie Footstepper brand footsteppers!

“houlihan whiz-bang magillacutty’s tootsie footstepper brand footsteppers” is in the style of a nineteenth century advertisement. of course, there’s a story behind it. in eighteen frumplehumfty, messrs. houlihan and magillacutty (yes, that is the correct spelling, at least according to messr. macgillacutty) built a footstepper factory, and in developing their marketing plan decided to develop a brand name for their product. of course, footsteppers have the tendency, as we all know, to be perceived as a commodity, and a good brand name could help overcome that perception. the houlihan “whiz-bang” (of course the company also had to have a brand image, as companies at the time were becoming more and more common among manufacturing businesses in the area) magillacutty people determined that tootsie footsteppers would be the brand name they were looking for (this as long as they were careful not to produce chocolate flavored footsteppers, and further provided their customers were careful not to eat them in the event they put them in their mouth, which seemed reasonable considering the methods of fitting footsteppers at the time). while some people may notice this is just a painting.
